Eucharistic Ministry

Juniors who have been fully initiated into to the Catholic faith (those who have received the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist) and who faithfully observe and practice it will be considered to serve as Eucharistic Ministers during their Senior year as SSA.

The Campus Ministry team will identify and invite Juniors who have demonstrated interest and participation in the liturgical activities of SSA to apply to serve as Eucharistic Ministers.

Application forms will be given to those selected to apply in the spring of Junior year. It is the student's responsibility to submit the completed application form to the Campus Minister. Each application is reviewed and the following criteria considered:

  • The student demonstrates a sincere and consistent practice of the Catholic faith
  • The student demonstrates responsibility and accountability to the school community
  • The student demonstrates balanced, mature behavior
  • The student actively participates in the liturgical activities of SSA.

The Campus Minister interviews each applicant and consults with the Pastor/Youth Minister of the applicant's church parish. Final selection is made by a committee of faculty members and administrators.

Students who are selected to serve as Eucharistic Ministers must attend a training workshop sponsored by the Archdiocese in the spring of their junior year. They are officially commissioned at the beginning of the school year. Commissioned Eucharistic Ministers may serve at SSA school liturgies only for the period of their senior year. Eucharistic Minster's meetings are held periodically for continued training and fellowship.

The school reserves the right to suspend a student from serving as a Eucharistic Minister if warranted.

Lector Ministry

Students who feel called to proclaim the readings and psalms for our liturgies must commit to a training workshop at the beginning of the school year. Once they have practiced projecting their voices clearly, they will serve as lectors at all school Masses and prayer services.

Students from all grade levels are invited to participate in this ministry.

Altar Server Ministry

Pope John Paul II reinstated permission for girls to serve as altar servers and our Archbishop has agreed to allow this ministry in our Archdiocese.

Students from all grade levels are invited to participate in the ministry after attending a training workship at the beginning of the school year. They will then serve at all school Masses on a rotation basis.

Marian Ministry

Students who embrace a devotion to Our Lady are invited to participate in this ministry.

Some of their responsibilites would be: to tend the grotto, to help coordinate the Living Rosary in October and the May Crowning in May, and to lead in the recitation of the rosary at various times through the school year.

Promoting Mary as the number one role model for young Christian women cannot be emphasized enough. This ministry is open to students in all grade levels.

The Student Ministry Team

The purpose of the Student Ministry Team is to strengthen and encourage Christian morals and beliefs within the St. Scholastica community and involve students more directly in the spiritual ministry of the church.

This ministry is comprised of dedicated Seniors who meet to plan the various service projects, activities, and collections coordinated through the Campus Ministry office. These Seniors serve as project coordinators and are responsible for promoting these projects.
